Volga Linen is a family run, British company that sells an exquisite collection of pure linen* from Europe and Russia. The collection consists of fabric by the metre, table linen, bed linen and ready to hang curtains.

 Volga Linen was set up in 1995 by myself. Originally our linen was sourced purely from Russia. I first went there in the late 1980's to trace my grandmother’s family. During this time Russia was changing dramatically, emerging from years of communism. Instead of finding my family I found an ancient industry which was still producing flax products for the internal market.  The mills were weaving everything from heavy duty sacking for agriculture, to fine damasks for the Kremlin.  Here was an opportunity to create a business by sourcing linens from a country steeped in the tradition of weaving and embroidery which was unknown for so long to the rest of the world.  Having established contacts with the manufacturers in some of the most ancient towns along the shores of the Volga the business began with a small collection of bed and table linens.

 Over the last decade Volga has evolved into a company recognised for our carefully considered collection of essential linen items for the home and coherent range of fabric by the metre. Linen’s unique qualities – beautiful texture, soft to touch, natural and hard wearing, means that, despite it’s traditional roots it will have an enduring appeal that complements and enhances changing fashion.

 Linen has good ecological credentials. Flax needs less in the way of fertilizers and pesticides than most other crops - it is low input and therefore more environmentally friendly. It is also renewable with a short growing cycle, and every part of the plant is used for various purposes, meaning little waste.
